Welcome to the first edition of “101 things to send him when he’s deployed.” If you’ve been following @JanesList on Twitter you’ve been catching our daily tweets with unique ideas of what to send your loved one who is deployed. We’re asked all the time about where the list is posted. We’ll post 10 items a week right here at Janes-List.com and then we’ll add the entire list of 101 on a permanent page of our blog in June. In the meantime, you can receive updates to our list by subscribing to our blog or following us on Twitter. And if you have any suggestions to send us for the list, email jane@janes-list.com.

1. Jelly Beans – Colorful, sweet and won’t melt en route to his destination

2. Wet Ones – May be the only bath he gets in the field

3. Socks – My guy’s a runner who marathon trained in Afghanistan. Find deals at Kohls

4. Lysol – Plus, you can always find coupons for this

5. (Courtesy of my husband) Any sports magazine! ESPN, Sporting News,Outside, etc.

6. A mixed CD of the current top 20 singles from his favorite genre

7. Beef Jerky – Never met a soldier that didn’t love having this in the field

8. Trail Mix – This healthy snack will give him loads of great energy

9. Homemade cookies. Mail in a Pringle’s Can to keep fresh

10. DVDs. Best Buy has great deals and a $6.99 bin

Like this post? Then you will love...

  • I love the cookie packing idea. Who da thunk it? LOL
  • Regarding #3 - socks: marathoners can be pretty particular about what kind of socks they train in. I have one friend who will wear Thorlos and only Thorlos, and another who prefers WrightSock anti-blister socks.

Of course, if you send socks that are unwanted by the care package recipient, I guarantee they will find a home with somebody else in the unit!
