Recipe Wednesday: Power up with these power breakfast tips

I’m not trying to sound like your mother, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s actually true. And having a breakfast chock full of protein and vitamins is absolutely essential to helping you power through your day. If you’re going to make just one great decision for your health daily, let it be indulging in a healthy breakfast. Here are a few of my favorite stand-by quick fixes:

Sweet and simple: This is my favorite stand-by power breakfast choice by far. I love taking nonfat Greek yogurt (Fage is my brand of choice) and folding in some sweet organic honey. I might add some berries and I’ve read that other people love to add Grapenuts or chopped walnuts for an extra kick.

Homemade goodness to-go: This is my choice for a cook once and eat breakfast all week. Make the most of your next rainy Sunday to prepare these Power Sticks from Weight Watchers.  You may want to double up on the batches because if you husband or kids steal a taste, they will probably be gone before you know it!

Eat your veggies!: Who thought you could sneak in greens so early in the morning? Well you can if you try these zucchini muffins from Simply Recipes. I love how portable they are, making it the perfect treat if your stuck in gridlock traffic on the way to the office.

Girl power breakfast: I call this the girl power breakfast, because it’s the same breakfast my mom has made every morning for the past eight years and no one I know has more girl power than she does. So, she must be doing something right. Toss some blueberries (great antioxidant) in some wheat germ (chock full of Vitamin E and folic acid) and just add some vanilla soy milk (protein packed).

Gourmet for dummies: Bethenny Frankel actually calls her recipe the Easy and Impressive Frittata and that’s a understatement. The best part of this recipe is that you can use any leftover sauteed vegetables you made the night before and any cheese you happen to have readily available.
